Shelter in a cave
This SEM (scanning electron microscopy) image shows sintered niobium carbides with a nickel binder that has previously been removed by chemical etching. The absence of obstacles in the pore allows to observe the spherical growth of the grains.
About the author: Mathilde LABONNE is a 2nd year PhD student in GPM2 group in SIMaP laboratory. She studies NbC-Ni materials in partnership with Hypérion, a society specialized in cemented carbides.
