Observation of the surface of a polished sample of Al-doped polycrystalline SiC-3C deposited by CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) on a graphite substrate at the thin film platform (PREMS).The fragments, fractured before polishing, have taken on this curious crocodile-like shape. The photograph was taken on the GeminiSEM 500 with the BSD1 detector.

Lucie Girod is currently in the second year of a CIFRE PhD, as part of a joint laboratory with MERSEN, within the EPM team. Her thesis is entitled Study and optimization of electrical properties of chemically vapour deposited polycrystalline SiC. In practice, she is investigating the relationship between process-microstructure-composition-electrical properties, notably by exploring new types of doping or growth conditions for SiC.
