Happy Al'ien
Laser powder bed fusion (metal additive manufacturing) gave birth to a new planet: "AL6061TH" (name of a new alloy suitable for additive manufacturing). This planet contains many mysteries yet to be elucidated. Al'iens' attack (known as the lack of fusion defect) appears to be detrimental to the mechanical properties of this new alloy.
About the author: Melek GENC is a 3rd year Ph.D. student in GPM2 group with a CIFRE doctorate with the company THALES. Her work aims at developing an aluminum alloy with a high thermal conductivity obtained by metal additive manufacturing. This image has been acquired at Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne, involved in the supervision of this thesis work.
