The composition of the oxidizing atmosphere influences the morphology of the thermal oxide layers. The formation of pores in this oxide rich in Fe and Cr is characteristic of the presence of water vapor. By allowing the transport of oxygen in the gas phase, these pores impact the mechanism of growth of the oxide.
