Dislocations storm
Dark-field STEM image of a Ni-based superalloy fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (additive manufacturing). Dislocations appear as white lines. Three dendrites from solidification can be distinguished: one black, one dark gray and one light gray. The sample is oriented in zone axis to magnify the dislocations contrast. This image was acquired with Muriel Véron.

About the author: Arthur DESPRES is a post-doctoral fellow in GPM2 group. His project is in partnership with Aubert and Duval society. It consists in studying the microstructure of Ni-based superalloys fabricated by additive manufacturing in order to better understand the generation of defects and the resulting mechanical properties.
