In-situ X-ray nanotomographic analysis of constrained powdered sintering
This PhD thesis will enable us to develop means to obtain complete 3D nano-tomography (nCT) images during high-temperature sintering and thus explore how densification and grain growth are affected by the presence of a substrate throughout the sintering cycle, with particular interest in the development of structural anisotropy.
This issue will be studied in the context of the EU-funded MATHEGRAM Innovative Training Network.
The main objectives of this work will therefore be:
i) to study constrained sintering by In-situ X-ray nanotomography at the particle length scale;
ii) to provide quantitative information on sintering phenomena;
iii) to explore the development of anisotropy due to the presence of a substrate during the entire sintering cycle.
